Sandra Encinas started wickd bean candles in 2003 after leaving a high stress corporate job. Her journey began one day when she accidentally spilled candle wax all over her hands and became intrigued with the unusual creamy texture and coolness of the wax she soon discovered was made from soybeans.
She was excited to learn of the meaningful health benefits and environmental contributions to be made by burning a petroleum-free candle and even more excited about the opportunity to let others know and experience what she had discovered.
With ingredients and packaging from local environmentally conscious suppliers she began to make her natural soy wax candles in her small kitchen. She soon took her product on the road selling at local farmers markets and festivals.
Years later she and her family are still making their candles in the same way but just in a little bigger facility. They continue to support US farmers by using wax made only from domestically grown soy, utilize local suppliers in an effort to help sustain businesses in their own community and are constantly looking for new and better ways to improve their product and further minimize its carbon footprint.
